Hey Love Your RVers, I'm mulling over a set of forum rules and asking for some guidance.

I'm thinking "No politics" is a good start. Plenty of places to talk about that stuff and no one is going to change anyone's mind anyway.

Another one I'm thinking is "If you wouldn't say it in front of your mother then don't say it here"
and "If have nothing nice to say then don't say it".

I'd like to have another rule called "No dumb questions" Anyone berating newbies for asking simple questions would be breaking that rule.

Anyway, anything else I should add to the list, I'm all ears. :)

I run a FB camper group. Number 1 rule is Don’t be a jerk.

One other thing forum creators need to decide is if they will allow for sale posts for their rv’s, trucks, parts etc. also if you want to allow people to advertise their blogs, vlogs, YouTube channels, businesses.

I like the list. Also no cursing or pro found language. That may go with what you wouldn’t say in front of your mother. But some people may.

That's a good one, I have created a "Promotional Stuff" category, for people, so the rule can be they have to post it in there. That way it gives folks a chance to plug their stuff without mudding up the regular categories.

Ray, what is the platform for the forum? The terms of service are extensive boiler plate chocked full of legal ease but I don't see any web based company that owns the platform.

It's a turnkey type cloud-based forum solution from a company in England called PlushForums

Ray I appreciate the work you are putting into the forum. It's a hard job to moderate these platforms. While it's meant to be a place to share RVing experiences you need rules and yours are simple to follow. Rv

I think that "No Dumb Questions" might lead newbies to think they can't as a "dumb" question. Perhaps it should read "Never a Dumb Question"?? Truck wars, guns and politics will always make for nasty.

Thanks, that's a good point so I had changed it to There are no dumb questions instead.

I can sum up all the rules with the same rule I have for my kids about life: Don't Be Stupid. As always, what constitutes stupid is often open to interpretation.

Thanks Ray for putting this together and since I’m a pre-newbie. Still working on getting our 5th wheel. I hope I don’t ask too dumb of as question. LOL. But I’m positive I will at some time. Learning a lot from all of you. So much information if you look for it. Can’t get enough of Boondocking tips and the DIY projects. Great stuff.
