Snowbird Trip Update - Overview of the Campsites Dec 2021 - Feb 2022
In this video, I update y'all on where we have been camping for the last few months during this season's RV snowbird adventures. We have been mainly boondocking on free Bureau of Land Management Lands and 10 dollars a night camping Salton Sea State Recreation Area.
Links to more info on the various camping locations mentioned:
Salt Creek Campground CA
Cibola NWR AZ
Saddle Mountain BLM AZ
Ogilby Road BLM CA
Amboy Crater CA
Snowbird Mesa NV
Valley of Fire State Park NV
Thanks Ray. We are heading down there next week. I just pinned all these places.
You mentioned the pack rats. Are they only in certain areas? Do you camp with lights on under your rig when in the desert? Does it really help keep them away?
Pack Rats (aka Wood Rats) RVing Tip -
They mostly live in the region called the Sonoran desert which is much lusher with bush and cactus such as Saguaro and Cholla. They seem to like to use the dropped Cholla arms as a means of defending their nests.
Activity will vary from year to year depending on the weather. Periods that are wetter than normal can increase the population due to the increase in food and cause more nest rebuilding due to flooding.
If you see vehicles camped with the hood up and lights under and/or above you are likely in place they are a problem.
Thanks for sharing the pins/links. We will check out more of these next year. Of all these we only stayed at Ogilby Rd (a.k.a. American Girl Mine?) We are now traveling eastward to go back to NS. Brrrrr.
