With the end of our desert snowbird season coming to an end we will soon be making our way north and west along the Oregon and Washington coasts and into BC for the spring and summer.

As we leave sunny California the prospect for rain increases dramatically and I need to check the roof. After 5 months of desert dryness and sun, I find this is a good time for an inspection and maintenance of my now 8-year-old rubber roof on the Keystone Cougar trailer.

I usually give it a wash with Dawn dish soap and clean any stubborn dirt with a rag and some Acetone. Then carefully inspected the EDPM rubber roof material and seams for any defects and wear.

In this video, I go over what I check and why and give some tips for products I use.

Yea... Our camper is pretty new (less than 2 years old) but it is outside all the time. The weather has been so weird (raining right now in CA) but I need to get up on the roof and check everything. I did the Eternabond tape on our last camper over factory dicor and it is a great way to go. So I am going to do the same for this camper. I wonder why camper manufacturers don't properly flash their roof penetrations with a product like Eternabond rather than just relying on a flexible caulking over seams and screws. I think Lance Campers has started using a roofing tape like Eternabond. The rest should step up and do this from the factory.

We had our roof sprayed when we got back from Alaska last year. We had RVRoof.com do it in Green Cove Springs, Fl. Life time guarantee and if we sell unit guarantee goes with it.

I used car wash with wax in it to clean my roof one time. I have since learned that car wash with wax has petroleum in it which is very bad for the rubber roof. I only did that once and it’s been about a year with no visible damage. So hopefully it wasn’t a costly mistake!
