No Hot Water
A mutual friend has a Class C motorhome that is about ten years old. The motorhome is in good shape but has a few gremlins lurking within. One is the hot water heater. Water will flow when the cold tap is open on both city and reservoir holding tank when the pump is needed, but when the hot water tap is open there is no pressure and only a weak stream of hot water that soon stops all together.
The hot water tank is full and is hot to the touch when we open the check valve. We've only been able to find two valves in and out of the hot water: cold water into the hot water tank, and hot water out, but not a third valve. We suspect cold water is mixing with the hot to produce tepid water, but why the weak stream and where is that mysterious third valve?
What are we missing?
Is there a winterizing bypass valve that is still on ?
...We think all the valves are open. We're wondering now if there may be sufficient calcium build up in the hot water hose to inhibit flow. The lady who owns the RV travelled extensively with it for several years, certainly enough time to cause significant calcium build up. Would running vinegar through the system much the same as cleaning a coffee maker do any good?
maybe try the valves the other way you may think there on when there not. Otherwise not sure what to tell you. Maybe someone else on here has a suggestion for you.
We had a similar situation on our older class c. We had/have an in line check valve right at the water heater accessible only from the inside. When I pulled the check valve out the spring in the valve and the plastic ‘check’ were broken. I purchased a new one from Amazon under $10 put it in and all was well.
