Hello all. I have a question or two concerning the anode rod for my suburban water heater. I’m getting ready to drain and clean my water heater. I’m not sure what type of anode rod I should purchase. I’ve seen some made of aluminum and others made of magnesium. Does it matter which is used? Is one better than the other? What are your recommendations?
I had to replace my hot water heater last year and removed the aluminum anode before I threw it out. When I drained the new water heater this spring I was shocked to see the anode worn out(magnesium) I am assuming the water at the Imperial Dam LTVA must contain minerals which just eat magnesium so the spare aluminum anode went back in.
