My wife has problems with her legs (hip replacement coming next month). To make travel easier we made some mods to our trailer including a couple things in the bathroom. Just wondering if anyone else has made mods to help with accessibility.
Hi Allan, here a few of my ideas to help my wife with her knee replacements. I added non slip mats to the shower floor. I found the best material to make the mats was the non slip rubber shelving liner that I had in the bottom of all my cupboards. I also got her a small shower seat so she could take the weight off her knees. I added a step to the truck to help my wife get in easier.
Hi Alan. Great ideas. My wife has had a knee and hip replaced and anything I can do is a help. We added the MorRyde steps which was a huge benefit. How did you attached the handicap assist bars to the wall? Thanks. Doug
Howdy @Alan W, I helped @Kimberly a few years back with her old 5th wheel by installing a grab handle for her husband to get up and down the stairs. I had to pull the wall apart and put 2"x6"s inside for a backing plate.
RV's have almost no studs to work with! :joke:
Happy Trails!!!
@Ray Whyte that's what stuck in my mind when I bought my current camper. It has a seat built in to the shower.
I also have a helper handle that sticks in the door latch of my truck to allow him to have something to hold on the way out.
Nice ideas. We have been looking at some type of chair. Put it away for the winter and have a hip replacement coming this month. We will see what spring brings.
I was lucky and the studs in the way were 18" on center so I was able to use them to attach the bars. Had that not been the case my original plan was to remove one of the wall panels and but a backer board behind it to attached the bars to.
