The Solid Step Storage Box is designed to fill the opening left if you remove the old OEM foldable RV steps. It goes hand in hand with the LCI Solid Step entrance stairs I recently installed. Disclaimer: Love Your RV! received this product sample free of charge for install and review.

The storage box is made of powder-coated steel with a locking rubber sealed lid. It's capable of holding up to 100 lbs. In this video, I take you through my installation process.

The first thing required for installation is to mount a metal support bracket onto the trailer I-Beam (note: I-Beam needs to be 8" or larger). This bracket attaches to the steel beam with eight self-tapping TEK screws. I centered the bracket, drilled small pilot holes, and screwed on the bracket.

Next, I mounted the storage box to the steel I-Beam bracket using two tabs they have riveted on the backside. Then finished the job by screwing in 4 flange bolts.

The box looks great, filling the void left by removing the old steps and coming in handy as extra storage. Plans are to keep our hiking and rubber boots in it. Overall I'm happy with the new storage box. It's heavy-duty for sure!

    A few things I don't like:

    1) Use of the very commonly owned CH751 key - https://www.loveyourrv.com/rv-storage-bay-locks-really-secure/

    2) It adds an extra 40 lbs or so to our rig's weight

One thing I'd like to do is beef up things up even more by utilizing the old steps metal hangers. I plan to add a few extra bolts to the box's side, attaching it to them.

Stay tuned as next I will be installing the optional Solid Step Lift Assist Kit - https://www.loveyourrv.com/SolidStepLift

Nice box Ray. I installed the one from Moryde and the Lippert box seems like a better built box than one I have. Mine mounted to the hangers that the steps where held up with, didn’t have to drill holes anywhere. Your box also looks a little bigger. I use it to store wheel chocks and few blocks for my jacks. My box weighs about 25lbs .

In this video, I swap out the standard CH751 lock cylinder in my Lippert Solid Steps Storage Box. I was able to get a replacement cylinder with a more unique key from a viewer that told me he had some for sale on eBay.

In 2017 we replaced our steps after a visit to Vanleigh. We seen the newer units equipped with them. Mom travels with us now and then so I felt they would help her stability. Like the tool box but the 40 lbs. I will have to think about. Wish they made one a little lighter. Another fine job Ray.

Another improvement...and once again with more weight added.

Luckily, my lithium battery improvement saved me close to 200 lbs, we also no longer carry bicycles, probably another 60 lbs there. That has allowed me to add quite a bit of stuff without the worry. It's always a balancing act, when we travel I really lean out the stuff we carry like tools and spare parts and move the heavier items to the truck tool boxes and crew cab. The new Ram truck has an extra 1000 lbs capacity compared to old Blue. 3995 lbs payload.
I'm also glad a chose carefully and picked a fifth wheel with over 2800 lbs cargo carrying capacity. https://www.rvusa.com/rv-guide/2011-keystone-cougar-fifth-wheel-floorplan-276rlswe-tr12914 It's probably a big reason I've never had a blowout or suspension issues.

I notice lots of the newer and even bigger ones are in the 2000 lb range or less as they cram more and more fancy-looking decor into them and cheap out on the frame and suspension components. CCC is a spec that a lot of new RV buyers overlook or I guess don't even know about.
