More good tips! I use the hot water temp gauge from your old tips and that has worked great. Now I just need to locate some tips on how to line-up my toad to motorhome. Always takes a few tries before I get it centered.

Excellent tips!! Thanks so much for your insight, from someone who's yet to purchase our 5er... we are still in the info gathering stage, any opinion on the quality of your Cougar 5er? How old is the trailer, and would you buy another one?

My experience is we have full timed in it for near 8 years now and its held up surprisingly well considering its meant for weekenders and vacationers.
Two biggest failures have been the fridge and water heater made by Dometic and Suburban, not Keystone.
As far as new, sorry hard for me to say, mine is 2011, lots could have changed since then. I haven't looked at the newer stuff, not one for RV shows. But, most of the newer stuff not just Cougar is suffering from poor quality I've heard.
The RV industry has been booming so they have been churning them out at the same time good labor is harder to find.

I used the stick idea (actually a four foot level with measurements) but I think I found something better. The stick only seemed to work properly on flat even campsites. Those are rare on the east coast.

Here is what I use now. I recycled a souvenir bear bell from Yellowstone, a strong magnet and some string. After I disconnect, I lower the bear bell to the ground, tighten the string so it is barely touching, and clamp it with the magnet.



The bell is then stuck to the magnet and leveling and setup proceeds. When ready to leave, lower the bear bell to the ground, raise or lower your jacks until it just touches the ground and you should be ready to connect.
