Scotties Castle, which has been closed since the '05 floods, is really great and well worth seeing. Sounds like they had to move that opening out until fall of '21. I remember getting date milkshakes at Furnace Creek and petting the mules on the borax teams when I was a kid!

Thank you for sharing! haven't been there in over 35 years. Loved it back then. We car camped and slept in the back of my Pinto station wagon. We definitely need to go back :-)

I remember in 73 when I went to Bonneville to help set a land speed record with my Uncle how the salt would look pink as the sun hit it. Took pics and when developed they were blue. How disappointed I was, hoping to show my friends what I'd seen.

We visited during a week that the park received a good dose of its yearly 2" average rainfall, so made for some rare scenes that most visitors don't get to see.

Ray, we stay at Texas Springs which is behind the large parking lot camping up the hill a little. I get 2-3 bar 3G up there with the booster. Not enough to post large files but enough to check e-mail.

Miss not being in DV this year. Hopefully we get back on the road soon.

Death Valley was way better than we expected. The colours from the hiking trails were fantastic! Gotta return one day.

In this second video of the series Death Valley NP Dec 2019 Visit, I take you along on three different trips we took down to Badwater Basin.



Badwater Basin is the lowest point in North Amerca at 282 feet below sea level. It is also touted as the hottest and driest. Not so much for me! :) I had the pleasure of visiting during a passing fall storm, which actually dropped significant rainfall onto the valley floor.

So the first time we see the typically sunny, warm salt flats but on the second visit, it's cloudy, foggy and raining! The video finishes with the third trip to enjoy large puddles of water and gorgeous reflections of the surrounding mountains.

We have never seen it wet like that. Very Cool. Death Valley might be my favorite NP.

Here is DW at Badwater from a couple years ago.

We were there in March 2013, it was much warmer. :)
This was a pleasant treat. One time I was so happy to see rain.

We have also never been there in the spring when the wildflowers are blooming. Definitely on the bucket list!

In this 4th video from our Dec 2019 visit to Death Valley National Park, we head out to the Mesquite Sand Dunes to try and get a nice sunset photo and I walk out to explore the taller dunes.



Due to a spell of cloudy, rainy weather mother nature didn't cooperate to get a spectacular photo of the dunes lit up by the evening sun. But, the stormy skies gave us a beautiful scene anyway.

In this 5th video from our Dec 2019 visit to Death Valley National Park, we take a trip on the colorful Artist Drive and stop off to enjoy the view at the Artist Palette overlook.



Also included is dashcam footage of sections the 9-mile one-way drive that weaves its way through the hills, canyons, and gullies. The video ends with a few of my photo stills.

In this video, we take in a side attraction at Death Valley National Park called the Devils Golf Course. This aptly named site is an area of jagged salt and mud formations as far as the eye can see.



I never got a good sunrise or sunset at this location but figured it was still worth a video and some photos just for the weirdness of the place. :)

In this video, I give you a look at both Twenty Mule Team Canyon and Golden Canyon in Death Valley National Park. Twenty Mule Team is an extensive, colorful badland area and Golden Canyon is a network of tighter slot canyons. Both offer amazing hiking and views of fabulous geological formations.



The video ends with a selection of still images, some showing the closer up views of rocks and plants after heavy rain had flooded the washes. Enjoy!
