We have settled into a 2-week visit to one of our fav southwest state parks at Lost Dutchman east of Phoenix. Here is a view from the roof of the Cougar. Love the view here.
We wanted to get 2 weeks in the same campsite, so booked back in October. If you just show up you can usually get a spot unless a busy weekend or holiday time for the locals but may have to shuffle around if you want to stay awhile. Last year around the Christmas holidays I remember rigs lined up early to try and get a spot as they opened up. They have an overflow area that's just a parking lot.
Looks nice, I dream of the day when I can actually get out and do some travels. I have a trip planned for the summer going up into the interior of BC but mostly we stick to Vancouver Island.
We love this park as well. Great dog friendly hiking. We were there once in the most intense lightning storm we have ever been in with zero delay thunder. First time I worried about being hit. We also stayed there in the summer once with 110 degree temps and the AC not being able to keep up. That wasn't fun at all.
Looks like you might have a little rain coming your way on Tuesday but rain in the desert is sort of satisfying. :)
Love the smell of the desert after a rain and its good for photos, once it begins to clear might get some nice lighting on the mountains and some clouds around. :)
Appreciate the comments about not having an advance reservation, Ray. Hope to stop there in late March while visiting friends in Mesa, but won't know that timing until a day or three before. Have been told it's a great stop, so here's hoping we won't end up in the parking lot (aka: overflow). Have a great holiday together and best wishes to Ann for a fulfilling 2020.
One positive for all this cool, rainy weather here in the desert is it makes for some beautiful scenes around sunset. Shot last night after the storm cleared.
We just finished our 2-week stay.
Normal it's sunny and temps near 70F this time of year but this year we are got lots of rain, cloud and even fog in the desert! Not great for short pants :( but good for photos. Here are a few from our last day! after a storm had rolled through. It covered the higher mountains off in the distance with snow.
We were in # 63, most of the campsites have good views of the mountain. For us, the sun was coming up almost right over the mountain top so it must be somewhat southeast.
