We've spent the last few days camping in the Dove Springs BLM area up near Ridgecrest, California on the east side of the Sierra Nevadas. Lots of ATV activity here but some decent free camping and fairly quiet during the weekdays.
Today was quite stormy with rain squalls but we are up high with good views. :)
I'll have a video out in a while with info on the area. Even got to blast around n a Polaris RZR a friend loaned me!
Last night we had a couple of thunderstorms roll through our BLM camp dropping about an inch of rain. Camped on high ground so not much danger but we did get a pond! Pretty cool photos with the big puffy clouds today. :)
Ok, newbie question!! How much extra water do you bring when you boondock? Obviously it depends on how long you stay, but what about bathing, cooking, cleaning dishes....etc... We are taking our first really short trip tomorrow to get to know the rig. But plan on a certain amount of boonie camping in the future.
Boondocking at Dove Springs OHV Area in California
In this video, I give you a look at the Dove Springs OHV area located in southern California. It's on the eastern side of the Sierra Nevadas, a little north of Mohave, CA.
Camping is free, and the area boasts some picturesque camping spots, but be warned it can fill up on weekends and holidays with mass ATV enthusiasts. So on those occasions, it's not the most peaceful of locals. ;)
I was treated by a friend to free use of his Polaris RZR ATV for a day and we explored some historical sites in the backcountry. The video finishes up with some dashcam footage and still photos.
