Hello all. Needs some help please. I just purchased a new tow vehicle, 2019 Ram 2500, 4x4. It’s rides quite a bit higher than my old towing vehicle, a 2011 F-150. So, the ball will definitely be much higher. I’ve looked over several YouTube videos on setting up the placement of the ball but then they all start with, “add X subtract Y, check for the alignment of the planets and finally ask for permission from your wife.” I think the current hitch I have will work, just need to turn the shank downward. I will also be using my weight distribution with it. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated! I really hope Ray or someone has a video I could follow.
I don't know much about travel trailer towing but when we got our new truck had the same issue towing Anne's boat, old truck was lower. So bought a ball mount that dropped it down several inches to get a level tow. https://www.etrailer.com/faq-ballmount.aspx
I'm not sure how that works with the weight distribution setup though
Not sure about the 2500 but when I went to a new ram I replaced my weight distribution shank from a 2" to a 2.5". I didn't want to use the adapter because i knew i would lose it one day and it felt like it had extra play in it.
Thanks Jetlag. Turns out I’m in the same situation as you. I’m using an adapter for now but first chance I get I’ll be changing out the shank. Thanks again.
