In this video, I install to the Solid Step RV entrance stairs by Lippert Components. The Solid Step is designed to replace traditional fold-out or accordion-style RV stairs. The Solid Step assembly lifts up and stows inside the entrance doorway.
The Solid Step has large aluminum treads, and adjustable legs for a solid footing on the ground when deployed, making it more like house stairs.
Installation was quite straightforward, involving drilling pilot holes and screwing the top plate in place. Then adjusting the steps travel locking positon for my particular sized doorway.
Ray you will love the new steps, I replaced mine last fall. I installed the Moryde steps and there box that goes under where old steps come out. Both steps are very similar to each other. Can’t go wrong with either one. Enjoy your new steps.
Lippert is going to replace your RV one component at a time.
We have similar on our new 5th wheel. One thing to keep in mind with these steps is that they need to be put up before lowing the jacks so as not to bind them up and damage them.
Ray,
I’ve got a question concerning the steps. On several YouTube videos I had seen that during installation there was a need to to trim the threshold. (I’m not sure if it was for the Moryde or Solid Step). Did you have to make any adjustments to the threshold or steps to get it to fit properly?
Milo on my installation I didn’t have to do anything with threshold, I have moryde steps. I think it might depend on make of certain RVs. I have a Montana 5th wheel no need to modify on this brand.

No, I had enough clearance. Some people report issues and some have no problems. Most of the issues seem to be with the screen door not closing with the stairs deployed.
I guess the fix is to raise the door a bit, cut a bit off the door bottom, or remove or lower the existing sill plate.
I can see on my Challenger brand screen door I could drill new hinge screw holes and likely raiser the door a bit. or the bottom is screwed on so I could remove and cut a bit off the side and re-screw.
But if the main door is a problem then the issue gets messy, My main door is riveted to the hinges.
I'm definitely gonna note this as a negative on my review as enough people have run into this problem with door clearance. Some fixed it and some gave up.
Just installed a 4 step Lippert Solid Step on our 17 Bighorn. Threshold was fine, but I ground down the tiny lip on top for even a better fit. Screen door was fine and also the welcome home light switch on the bottom of the door worked fine. I'm sure Ann likes the larger top step as my wife does. Our Blue Heeler especially loves them instead of the original rickety fold outs. Been shopping for them for some time. One day a CW sale had it for 322 dollars. Quickly jumped on it.
Hi Ray,
I was going to install the Lippert system until I came across to torklift glowsteps. The idea of flipping the steps up into the trailer did not appeal to me due to dirt not swept off or having to pullout of camp on a muddy day. Also it limits the distance of how close I can get when parked. The tork system when deployed is as sturdy ,as the solid steps, as adjustable, and allowed me to keep them outside . The install took me a total of 32 minutes. Since they are an accordion type system I had my doubts about them but once I installed them we tested them having a friend that was almost 6fr and 320lbs stand and bounce. Trailer hardly budged
Like Nighthawk, we have decided not to use the Lippert steps. My brother has them in his newer Reflection, and mentioned the necessity to sweep well before raising.
When we manage the RV park, a couple of times Greg has to dig a space for someone’s steps because the grass site was a bit higher than the gravel pad to park on. “Normal” old fashioned steps were fine, but these new ones were not. When we travel, if we have to get inside to use the facilities, we can both get in without having to lower the steps at all.
I guess we each need to weigh the pros and cons for ourselves. They do look nicer and are certainly more stable.
Just added the optional lift assist. Anne really likes this addition as she can now open and close the stairs with very little effort. She even agreed to demo it in the video. :)
In this video, I install a companion product to the Lippert Components Solid Step RV entrance door stairs. The Solid Step Lift Assist mounts next to the RV entrance doorway and a gas strut attaches from there to a connection on the Solid Steps. Once installed the steps can be retracted and deployed with just one finger.
Hi ray. Just saw your video on the strut installation for the solid steps. I was wondering if you could pass on the dimensions? The width and depth of the brackets. The reason is in my cougar trailer, my fridge is immediately to the left of the entry way. I’m trying to determine if the strut would fit. I thought maybe I could install it on the other side of the stairs but I have a built-in cabinet there.
Looks like for the strut eclosure you need at least 3" 1/4 in width for clearance for the bolts that stick out and 4 1/2 " depth. It sits against the metal door frame.
The box is a little over 2 1/2" wide but the nuts and bolts add to it at their location, 3 1/4"
