Adding Trailer Lights To Back of a Fifth Wheel for Double Towing

    We bought a used 2013 Komfort fifth wheel. The previous owners had a 2 inch hitch welded to the back of the fifth wheels frame. I want to use it to tow my side-by-side behind the fifth wheel, but they never had the trailer lights wiring done. So I need to wire up a 4 pin flat light adapter for the back trailer. I bought the wiring from a local trailer shop, but they are booked out like 2 months to get an appointment to install it, so I figured I’d do it myself.

    Has anyone ever done this before and could give me some pointers? I’m guessing I’ll need to pull the plastic under belly pan to access the trailer wiring and possibly remove both back lights on the fifth wheel?

    Does your truck have both the 7 pin and 4 pin connection, many do. Thinking it may be simple to just run a long cable under the fiver from the truck, or maybe use a junction box. Sometimes ifs a pain to try and locate the wires at the back of the fifth wheel.

    Thank you for the suggestion. My truck does have both connections. Maybe I’ll keep that in mind as my backup plan, but I’d rather tap into the wires at the back of the fifth wheel if possible.

    I used the wires to my taillights on my fifth wheel, checked each one as either the blinker or brake lights were activated for accuracy and then mounted the bracket on my back bumper and it works great. Good luck!

    Ray,
    Great idea. I am building a swivel wheel trailer to transport my quad behind the trailer and was dreading the search for the light cable inside the belly pan. Zip tying a 4 wire cable to my black pipe propane line sounds like a quick fix which I can change when I have more time. Your ideas and suggestions have saved my bacon more than once. Thanks, Bill
