I got lazy about this with my daughter's trailer. The anode rod was changed when she bought it (used). However, I waited almost 3 years to replace it. I should have taken a picture but there was nothing left of it....basically just the plug. I'll be doing that little chore every year now.

Yep, Pretty much like that. Mine was only the wire...no material on it at all.
