    We are preparing to be mobile after our long winter nap set up in a British Columbia RV park.

    Greg was preparing to sand and spray paint the 5th wheel rails in the truck. A close inspection exposed two cracks - one on either side of the front rail.

    It’s always something, but better to find out now rather than on the road.

    Good catch! Do you have to replace or can it be welded to repair?

    It can only legally be welded by a licensed welder. Today Greg went to Kelowna for generic replacement rails, but our hitch is 16 years old - a 16,000# Reese. Apparently it’s too old for the new generic rails, so rather than buy a whole new hitch and rails, we are having this one welded and then he will swap the rails front to back.

    If you have found those cracks. I would do a serious check for other cracks that are possible starting.

    Yes George. Greg does regular inspections for all aspects of the 5th wheel, and especially things like this which could cause a catastrophe.
