Howdy gang. I’m guessing that this little black clip on the orifice of my new water heater is to protect it during transportation and should be removed?
Install of the new SW10DE went was pretty easy, though I was surprised that the manufacturer shipped it with the electric switch in the ON position. Imagine turning the power back on to find your element fried.
Richard,
If that opening is the air intake for the burner flame, it almost looks as though there is a slider missing, used to fine tune the air-fuel mixture. The black tab may be used to add friction to the slider to keep it in position. I don't have that model, but having seen others, yours seems to missing the adjustable part of the burner set-up.
Just a thought.
Ah, yes, saw that video but missed the clip part. I certainly won’t throw it away. My old Atwood heater had the slider for air adjustment, but this video shows my Suburban isn’t supposed to have one. Interesting. Thanks.
Hi…apparently this Suburban does not come with a slider, as seen also in the video link Ray provided. The clip seems to do nothing more than let you take the assembly apart.
