In this video, I take you along as we head out to nearby Strathcona Provincial Park here on Vancouver Island. We recently spent a few days in October 2020 camped in Buttle Lake Campground. Being the offseason, there were very few other campers making for a peaceful little getaway.

I show you some of the prime RV camping spots and a few nearby hiking trails, plus some of the gorgeous autumn views I come across during a morning walkabout.

The campground has no RV hookups but does have pit toilets, garbage, and well water pumps. The campsites are fairly spacious with picnics tables and a fire pit. At least a dozen or so can handle a larger motorhome or trailer in the 30-foot range like ours, maybe larger.

Access is good, and the trees were trimmed back for good clearance. The highway 28 out from Campbell River is in good shape, plenty wide, very scenic, but does have a few curvy sections to deal with.

When we visited its considered offseason during October, the campsites were first-come, first-serve, and went for an inexpensive 11 Canadian dollars, roughly 8 bucks USD.

    Ray,
I hope you got in and out before the nasty storm and rain hit the area !

Have returned to Buttle Lake in early June 2022. It's been a wet spring and everything is very lush and green. Nice to have Starlink now so we can get off the beaten path more. No cell service here but with the dish we have high-speed internet.

A few more from today June 4th. Looks like June is continuing cool and wet like May. But still, some beautiful scenes to be enjoyed. Love how the low cloud hangs in the valley here.

No, it's been pretty cool highs only around 14C 57F and lots of rain so not much bug action going on. Maybe in the summer but we tend to stay here in spring and fall and haven't found bugs to be a problem.
Lots of mice last fall though but so far haven't had any this time.

Just spent a mostly unseasonably cool, cloudy, and often wet 2 weeks out at Buttle Lake Campground on Vancouver Island and of course the day we leave glorious blue skies, sunshine, and 18C temps. Oh well, was a relaxing, peaceful getaway. :)
