They have become "smart" enough to swim all the way up the Columbia to the Willamette River and up the Columbia to Bonneville dam. Eating the salmon all they way up. Maybe we need to train a few Killer Whales to swim up as well!
The whales are pretty intelligent. To get seals off the rocks, they will team up, and one will swim close to the rocks creating a wave, then the others will swim past at the right time to amplify the wave washing the seals into the water for lunch.
Not sure. We haven't seen much rain this last month, and only about 1/4 inch the last few days. Other places maybe did better. I also think it depends on the timing of the rains, got to come a the right time. It seems like a good start though
I like this photo I took of Anne during our Christmas Day hike in Arizona's lush Sonoran desert. Shows the scale of the large Saguaro and Organ Pipe cactus.
These two have been joining us for happy hour the past few days perched on a nearby bush. Guess they are best friends as they don't seem to mind each other's company.
Male Anne's Hummingbird and female Phainopepla
A little hummingbird just chilling in a tree behind the RV.
Another day!
Raining in the desert today, so I was able to capture this video of a wet Costa's hummingbird. Usually, the male colors are purple, but damp feathers and muted lighting made for an aquamarine color on some. So cool!
This one is pretty chill with me being close to him
I'll take your lead using a Humming bird. This guy kept buzzing me as I was attempting to refill the feeder. Amazing that they are so territorial. I've been feeding them for years yet they buzz me when Im anywhere close to the feeder. They also will not allow 2 at one time on the feeder. figure
Ajo Mountain Drive in Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument never disappoints. Here are a couple shots from today. For wildlife, we saw a mule deer, some type of hawk, California Quail, and the highlight, a pair of bobcats! Anne got some good shots of them in a wash. Hopefully, she'll get them processed and posted soon.
Flocks of birds at Cibola NWR, Arizona last evening. Sand Hill Cranes, Snow Geese, Yellow Headed Black Birds, etc. All are being watched closely by us and a coyote!
Some shots from dusk yesterday at Zabriskie Point in Death Valley. Usually a famous sunrise location but I think the landscape looks beautiful in the muted evening light.
Yesterday afternoon Badwater Basin in Death Valley, NP, with a storm system moving through. Not much rain but some gusty winds and 80F. The little dots on the white salt flats are people. Badwater is the lowest point in North America at 282 feet below sea level. A few years ago, I got some cool video of it after a few days of rain https://youtu.be/KkAgR2f6PKA
Clearing this AM after a windy night. Looks like a mixed bag today, maybe even a thundershower later on in the day. Clouds are going to hang around, so should make for some nice photo opportunities down in Death Valley NP. Fingers are crossed for rainbows. :)
